This was a very tough book to rate. I loved the first 65 to 70% of this book but then it kind of fell apart for me. There's a lot to really appreciate here: you have an alpha mmc, very protective and possessive. A traumatized fmc running away and the mmc wanting desperately to care for her and help her through her trauma. MIND YOUR TRIGGERS. There are so many and they are graphic. I don't mind that but some people will not be able to read this. This book is also for the most part well written. I was on this ride from the jump and couldn't out it down. When we get spicy scenes they are very sexy!
What I didnt love: I didn't like the fmc's best friend. I honestly thought we would find out she was the reason her ex husband found her. She also gives this insane speech to the fmc near the very end that comes off as completely insensitive. I didn't like the end, I wasn't expecting that turn of events and seemed maybe a little unnecessary? And it's so heartbreaking. The last 30% of the book reminded me of the writing of Emily Klepp and I don't like her style at all sadly (unlikely and overly gratuitous and the characters make you mad).
Side note - there were a few scenes that almost seemed like the author was making a political statement about certain things (abortion for example) and that felt weird and out of place.
