Thank you NetGalley, Paisley Hope and Random House / Cornerstone for providing an eARC in exchange for my honest review - Freeing the Wild publishes November 6th.
I was excited to have an early copy of one of my most anticipated reads, Freeing the Wild is book 4 in the Silver Pines series and I’ve enjoyed the series so far!
Cassie is a country star on tour when she must return home to Silver Pines after a tragedy at her concert. Haden is after a peaceful life on the ranch until Cassie’s return turns his world upside down, months after one night together they’re forced back together in close proximity.
There’s definitely some insta-lust at the beginning, with the book starting with a one night stand, but once Cassie is back in town it’s clear the chemistry runs deeper and it’s slow burn before they end up together which I enjoyed.
Cassie is initially portrayed as a bit of an airhead, but her layers unravel and you learn her vulnerabilities and I enjoyed seeing her personal growth as she processed her grief journey with her therapist and the toxicity of the music industry.
Haden is a true sweetheart, a caring person who strives to look after everyone else before himself. The additions of his scenes with Penny, and the care he had for the rescue horses was a lovely touch.
Together they had great chemistry and banter, but I found my interest dropped off a little after they got together and I felt alot of the rest of the book was spice. I also wish the Dax situation was resolved much quicker, as the repetitiveness got frustrating! It wasn’t my favourite in the series but I still had a great time reading this!
It was really great to be back with the characters we know and love from the previous books and for them to play a big role in this book too. I’m really hoping that the next book is Asher and Olivia!
If you enjoy small town, second chance, forced proximity and found family, I’d recommend this! I’ll be picking up a physical copy on release day (hopefully from the works with matching sprayed edges to the rest of the series!)
