Sweet Valley Twins: The Haunted House
by Francine Pascal, Nicole Andelfinger
The Sweet Valley Twins books were my favorite series when I was younger, and the books that got me into reading. So when I saw that there’s graphic novel adaptations of the book, I just had to read them.
The Haunted House is the fourth book in the series and deals with themes of elitism and bullying. How getting on the wrong side of the wrong person can make your life a living hell, and how rumors can be very harmful. This graphic novel has done a great job at adapting all of the important plot points from the original book, while also making it feel fresh for the present-day audience.
The artwork is very well done. I’m not too fond of the character design, but that’s just a personal preference. My only big complaint is the fact that the character guide is in the back, and not in the front. I think it would be very beneficial to introduce the characters at the start of the book, both for new readers and to refresh the memory of returning ones.
