The Kissing Booth by Beth Reekles
1.0

well, this was just...cute.

Cute in a "OMG that would NEVER happen like that" kind of way. I think the fact that this was pulled to print from Wattpad and the author was very young made me want to give her an extra star.

But, really, this would just never happen this way. Maybe it's the difference of culture in other countries? if the author is in the UK, maybe that's why I'm having a tough time leaping at all the things that would never happen in a US school.

A kissing booth at a school carnival - no way!! Public Displays of affection (meaning extra long hugging!) is grounds for detention in US schools! There is NO WAY they would allow a whole kissing booth where people paid to get a sloppy french kiss!
Drinking and getting so drunk at a party that you don't make it home and your dad says NEXT TIME he'll ground you. Um, no - legal drinking age is 21. I know kids drink younger, but a dad that just shrugs. Well, I guess that's NOT the kind of parent I hope we have as an example in YA books. (and then letting her stay out all night at a hotel with her boyfriend. What an irresponsible dad!)
Getting a hotel room while under the age of 18 and NOT having a credit card - not in the US! The only exception might be those especially seedy "pay by the hour" kind of rooms and that sure didn't sound like where they went!!

and I thought Noah scaring every other male away from Elle especially disheartening. If she'd been able to have her pick of any boy...if they hadn't all been too terrified to get to know her and try to date her - would she have picked Noah over all the others? Who knows!! She never got the chance to even see if she liked any other boy.....

all of these things were distracting and disappointing and made the book just a little too silly for me. I couldn't suspend my belief long enough to even like it.
