The story in this one is horrific in such a fun, entertaining way. Junji Ito never fails to deliver on the scary aspects of the plot. Planet Remina's sentience to feeling seen, the way it is indifferent to human suffering, the inevitable end of the world... very well executed.

The parallel story with human Remina is a bit harder to swallow. I believe its themes are well-developed, and I felt for the girl all throughout the story. The way society blames her when there's no point or reason, all the men around her want something from her. Even the ones that help her are always manhandling her. It's so sad.

I think sometimes it can cross the line to torture cornography. It gets a little too detailed on Remina's pain and suffering for the enjoyment of the crowds. It is certainly believable, but very hard to see. That's why I knocked it to four stars.

This was overall a short and enjoyable (as much as one can enjoy the end of the world). I like Junji Ito so this is not a surprise to me.
