4.5 stars. First off, you should check triggers on this book. It gets real dark, real fast. Some triggers: gun violence, assault of minors, racism, gruesome homicide, religious trauma.
But, if you can handle those triggers, this book is really well done. S.A Crosby’s writing is great and really immerses you into the story. I was hooked immediately and kept wanting to read on.
The only reason it wasn’t 5 stars is that the ending didn’t hit quite as much as I wanted it to. I just felt like something was missing since everything leading up to it was so good.
I’m really glad this was my book club’s pick because I’m not sure I would have picked it up otherwise.
