This reads like a YA novel as it's not very challenging to the reader and full of clichés. The writing style is good. It's easy to read, and I think the idea and setting of the story has merit. It's just not interesting.

The setup and the payoff are just not satisfying. Instead of foreshadowing, the author tells you what's going to happen.

The characters aren't flushed out. They are just stereotypes of teenagers, and they're not developed enough to care if anything bad happens.

I think if you want a quick and easy read, this would be great.

A lot of the 5 star reviews seem to be from people who were either paid to give a review or given the book in exchange for one. The book is new, and the publisher probably wanted to kick off the launch with some reviews, but they seem to be a bit bias and skew the rating.
