Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
5.0

This has to be one of my favorite books.

Raskolnikov when people want what is best for him: "Disgusting."

R.I.P Raskolnikov, you would have loved the Joker.
When I say I love this book, I mean this in the most lighthearted way you could say it. Although I do enjoy the suffering Raskolnikov goes through, as I hope everyone else does, I still find myself enjoying the more comedic characters, such as my newlywed Husband: Ilya Petrovich. I love Ilya Petrovich. He is my one and only soulmate. After, of course, my 60-year-old copy of Little Women.
But isn't this book just hilarious? Imagine you just killed a man, and you now need to juggle a family drama, a tragic love story, and an investigation all in one, while you are also physically and mentally ill, almost physically and mentally dying.
Sounds awful, doesn't it? Because he's the main character. I find a lot of joy in imagining Raskolnikov as some side character, and imagining him in - let's say - a story following Sonia's younger siblings. or Razumikhin.
"Yes, this is my best friend\ my sister's boyfriend. He's mentally ill, banned from almost all public spaces, in jail for murder, and really hot. He just kind of sulks around. Ignore him." And then Raskolnikov starts mocking you to death because he thinks you looked at his shoes in a weird way.
Razumikhin HAD to have had a crush on him at some point, didn't he?? He MUST have.

Edit: took out some unimportant updates and stuff.
