The Broken Road by Richard Paul Evans

2.0

Can't say I enjoyed this one as much as previous books. From the very beginning, the protagonist comes across as an unlikeable character, and I find myself questioning whether someone with those personality and character attributes would be likely to change in the way Evans seems to suggest he will. Evans' books often seem to follow a pattern of apparent success, followed by trial and tribulation, and finally coming to a realization of what true success is and a happy ending. As a results, I sometimes find myself sympathizing with the characters, even sorrowing with them, but I felt none of that with this character, only dislike and distaste. I'll probably read the remaining books in the trilogy just to see how Evans pulls it off, but I'm a bit disappointed.
