Funny Story revolves around Daphne, who was recently left by her fiancé for his childhood best friend and as a result, has moved in with her ex-fiancés new fiancés ex-boyfriend, Miles. After they receive invitations to the wedding, Daphne and Miles not only agree to RSVP but also to pretend to date each other so their exes can see how happy they are without them. But as they get to know each other through a series of fake dates and the development of a genuine friendship, they come to realise that they really are happy without them, and are happier together. My favourite characters were both Daphne and Miles, but I loved so many of the side characters too. My least favourite character was probably Peter. I recommend this book because I love all of Emily Henry’s books so far, they’re so beautifully written and original and deep and meaningful and relatable. I also love how her romance books are about so much more than romance, but also life, and friendship, too. “Everything worth doing comes with some risk.”
