4.5

Having read Leigh Bardugo's initial 'Shadow and Bone' series and not really liking the prose and pace of her writing, the first installment of this Grishaverse spinoff was a really pleasant surprise. Not only is the prose much better, but the characters are much more developed in terms of their flaws and vices that encourage the reader to engage in more nuanced questions about morality.
