I do think that this book unfortunately suffers the fate of many sequels (i.e., the first one was better, in my opinion). The world was expanded much more, which was great to see, but it felt like nothing was given the space it needed to be fully developed. I think that either the series needed a third book for breathing room purposes, or the author could have scaled back some of the plot elements. Overall, this book had very different energy from the first one, which included the seemingly rapid technological advancements and expansion of the story that happened much too quickly. We're not even going to talk about that ending (I will forever be devastated and angry about it).
Moderate: Child death, Death, Gun violence, Violence, Fire/Fire injury
