Keep on Running: The Highs and Lows of a Marathon Addict by Phil Hewitt

5.0

"But train for a marathon, and for one day you can join the ranks of the immortals"

I really loved this book . A newspaper editor turned marathoner because the sports editor who was offered a place in the London marathon wasn't fit to run ran 22 additional marathons over the course of this book. As interesting as his race stories were, the locations in which he ran also starred. From London to Paris via Chichester and New York. London to Mallorca, via Amsterdam, Berlin and Dublin. I felt as if I could see the Cutty Sark, the harbors of Palma de Mallorca, the Eternal City and beyond.

I liked that he shared his lows as well as his highs as the readers followed him along his journeys. A very realistic portrait of a beginner marathoner and an engaging writer. He's also a family man who isn't able to devote his life to running and training, although he has the flexibility to travel to his races. Liked the stories of the races he shared with his father in law, a mid 70s marathoner who took up running because he did.

Curious if he's still running, I'd read more from him.
