Flames of Chaos
by Amelia Hutchins
Is this a great plot? Absolutely not. Is it kind of a train wreck that I couldn't stop reading? Absolutely. I gave this 3 stars, but I am definitely going to continue reading the series because I can't stop reading it. I will be taking a break and not binging the series, though. Aria and Knox annoyed me just enough that I need a break from them, but they entangled me enough that I need to find out how this all works out (plus, it's an unfinished series - not in a rush here to catch up).
I liked Aria's and Knox's chemistry in the beginning and thought we'd get some spicy bantering, but then the plot dissolved into a story about Aria's virginity and Knox's claim on her. It was a lot. Like a lot a lot. Not to mention the word "breeding" comes out a lot. This book also discusses mates a lot and how the Hectate line is cursed to only birth females and also to procreate. So...it kind of all goes hand-in-hand and is...a lot. haha
If you can get through the first 75% of the book, though, the end was interesting. We actually got some Knox POV chapters, which were kind of interesting. They kind of revealed his plots before Aria figured them out, which I'm not sure how I feel about it. It basically made it not a surprise for the reader at all and I'm not sure his POV really gave us much in terms of his thoughts/feelings, but maybe they did a little. The end was a definite "I hate you, but you're mine" type of ending. They end up enemies so we're back peddling on the lust issues and I'm curious to see what happens with book 2. Not to mention we solved the twin sister issue, interesting. Overall, the end was probably the most interesting part of the book and basically stuck any plot we got there.
Lucky that Knox borders on my favorite type of alpha-hole so we'll see how that goes.
I will say one other thing I found annoying was that Aria repeats herself so many times over the course of pages and I was just like "WHY?!" So that happens quite a bit through the book too.
Dang it, why do I have to like possessive alpha-holes?!
