Unspeakable: A Queer Gothic Anthology by Celine Frohn

4.0

What an enriching and profound reading experience! All eighteen tales had something new to offer, with beautiful subversions of the genre - which originated as a confrontation with the fear of the 'other,' but here becomes an exploration and celebration of this otherness - while also wholly committing to the gothic vibes, some stories going for a quirky and cute tone, others diving fully into darkness.
"Leadbitter House" & "Brideprice" & "The Ruin" were creative and original.
"The White Door" was entertaining as f*k.
"The Account of Service at Meryll Point" & "Taylor Hall" & "Hearteater" had me emotional.
"Doctor Barlowe’s Mirror" & "The Moon in the Glass" & "Quicksilver Prometheus" had me on the edge of my seat.
