Hard to review a book like this. I mean, spoilers are meaningless in a millennia-old story which pretty much tells you what is going to happen throughout.
It is required reading at least once. In modern terms it is of course dreadful, the action takes ages to get going, it is repetitive; there are only so many ways to describe sacrificing to the gods, or rosy fingered dawn heralding a new day. But you don't read Homer for that.
What I loved about this, and why I gave it a generous nearly four stars, is that I could follow it all easily – unlike the dreadful and incomprehensible Wordsworth Classics edition.
Emily Wilson has translated the ancient greek into actual English, unlike the former which I bought and couldn't get past the first couple of books.
