The Salem Witch Trials is my Roman Empire. While this story is more horror, it does offer accurate insight of how the trials were conducted. The Puritans considered themselves the most pure and godly, however they adopted very barbaric ways of thinking. Women had no say or rights and absolutely anything out of the ordinary would lead to punishments and ultimately what caused a lot of accusations for witchcraft. Abitha is an outsider come to live in a puritan colony in Massachusetts, marrying a stranger. She tries her hardest to fit in and finds herself in multiple tough situations where she is pushed to the very brink. Even though she isn’t considered normal in her attitude or religion, she still has incredible faith. Her journey is incredible because it shows the hardships she faces and ultimately how the community drove her to do the things she did for the sake of survival. The representation of how horrible people can hide behind religion is phenomenal or even how demons can make offers seem innocent. I loved the historical accuracies weaved into this fictional story and the added horror elements that tied it all together.
