The premise of the book series is believable but a little dark (within the context of the urban fantasy genre "canon").  The main characters are a strong magical female and a Mexican American human police detective.  They do play nicely off each other.  This is one of the three series set in the Old World universe.  I've completed two of the series and very much enjoyed the style and pace of the writing as well as the challenge of trying to figure out "whodunit" before the main characters do.  It's a very good read, highly recommend for fans of good urban fantasy.
