An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

emotional reflective fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? No
  • Diverse cast of characters? It's complicated

3.25

   | I honestly had a really hard time rating this.

*It was a quick read.
*The pace was decent-ish (I struggled a bit at first)
*The idea is interesting but it still is a 2016 YA book and it reads exactly like a 2016 YA book.

I can't even pinpoint why this isn't rated higher. Maybe because it really reminded me a lot of books I already read that are just a bit older than this one (same YA era) and my brain kept going like: "hey this scene is similar to the one in...", "this one reminds me of ..." etc.
I don't know, I guess what I am trying to say is that 2016-2017 Tea probably would have loved this book- sadly, she isn't the one that read it.
Also, the plot twist, I'm not actually even sure if it was a plot twist because it was expected to happen and the entire story while interesting felt a bit flat because it lacked intrigue.
I just didn't love it and I am a bit bitter about that. Because it does sound good.

I am gonna continue on with the series just to see what happens I guess.. I mean, it wasn't bad.
I really hope that Sabaa Tahir would write another series after this one because I think she is a good writer, her ideas are really good... I just want something that's not YA (I don't hate it.. I just want something different)

It's late... My brain is mush... I don't even want to think of grammar and punctuation...zzZZZZZZ
