Nubia & The Amazons by Stephanie Williams, Vita Ayala

5.0

*Read as single issues*

This was fantastic! I don't read a ton of Wonder Woman stories and I haven't read anything about Nubia outside of the short stories during Future State. Ayala and Williams created a story that not only a very easy, seamless introduction to the character, but it was a blast to read!

The character work for Nubia was fantastic! We got to see her compassion and empathy towards others, but most importantly, we actually get insight into who she is as a character. We see her insecurity at taking on a new role after being champion for so long. We see her love for her fellow Amazons, her fire and drive. We also get to see her kick ass and I loved seeing that, of course!

I loved the artwork and the colors! The action scenes worked well and the emotional scenes were well done.

The Trial of the Amazons crossover cuts in at the end and I hope that means this series is continuing on because I really enjoyed reading this! Not only was it a comic book starring a queer black female lead (still a rarity in comics unfortunately), but the cast of characters was diverse as well. Also, I'm really invested in seeing how Nubia continues to lead as Queen.

Definitely on the look out for more comics from these two writers!
