Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

5.0

I genuinely really enjoyed this book! Going into it I knew it was a slow burn, but after reading What Moves the Dead I had to give this one a go and I am SO GLAD I did! It was slow, yes, but once it started burning.. it burned HOT! I loved the setting it was so immersive and the gothic vibes were giving me everything my spooky little heart desired. The house is so cold and un-inviting but something about it makes me want to stay and learn more.. It’s gory, paranormal and creepy. I loved the main character, I liked her sass and strong personality. I found the “Villian(s)” to be unsettling and the book does a really good job of touching on some what could be real life scary situations with some mycology and paranormal-ness mixed in.
The book gives me the similar vibes as the show Brand New Cherry Flavor, or Haunting of Hill House and even a little bit of the movie Crimson Peak sprinkled in!
