Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton

5.0

I finished this a few days ago and can't stop thinking about it. I found it a refreshing and affecting ode to female friendships and the families we choose for ourselves. Love is so much more than romantic love (with marriage as the ultimate goal). Absolute highlights for me were the fictional letters discussing various ridiculous life milestones (bachelorette party, baby shower etc.) that had me in stitches laughing. She really nailed these. And the chapter 'My Therapist Says' also really spoke to me. I think it might be a bit of a niche, many of the references that I enjoyed seemed so culturally and generationally specific that I wonder if anyone more than a few years either side of 30 or outside of Dolly's circumstances (cis, straight, white) would enjoy it at all. I get that it's probably not for everyone, but it was definitely for me.
