I'm with the Band: Confessions of a Groupie by Pamela Des Barres

5.0

The escapism from reading about the life of someone so similar yet so different from me SUCKED ME IN. Miss Pamela’s book is an ode to the young female experience: ridden with emotion, earnestness, & soul-searching. It was both the most & least relatable read of my 25 year-old life. But it’s highly sexual, so stay away, mom.

The story was a time capsule into an time I’ll never see & a life I’ll never lead. Miss Pamela writes about drugs, sex, hippies, rockstars, & landlines; I was transported into a fantasy land. The best part? It’s real. Reading was a research project. I paused at nearly every paragraph to Google each new character. The fact that I could made it endlessly exciting.

The book inspired me to live, love without fear, & explore endlessly as I become. If nothing else, it inspired my introverted self to leave the house. Lastly, it’s the biggest women supporting women read! Miss Pamela loves her girls & supports them to the end, which is refreshing in a story that revolves around rockstar men.
