After rereading this series for the first time since high school, I still maintain my opinion that Sabriel is the best book in the series but I do love the animal companions in this series as well as the world. I just find the characters outside of the Abhorsons and the animals to be a bit lacking, particularly the boys. I wish we had had more time with Sabriel.
