The Haunting by Natasha Preston

adventurous dark funny mysterious tense medium-paced

2.5

This took me awhile to get through, not because I didn’t want to know what was going to happen, but because it felt like I missed the first half of the book. It was like we got dropped into the midway part of the book when the main character gains common sense and realizes they’ve f*cked up and goes around trying to fix everything. But, she continually dismisses that there are actual reasons for everyone she is trying to rebuild trust with to not trust her. She regains that knowledge about halfway through and despite that, I did enjoy the story. Very high school, drama heavy, am I a reliable narrator? vibe to it. I did manage to guess a killer but way later in the story line. Did NOT guess the ending and I found out later the author is known for this type of ending but I didn’t know and I’ll just say I’m irritated with it. Good for a casual, YA, stormy afternoon read
