Netherland by Joseph O'Neill

I found this book thoroughly confusing. I had to keep asking myself what it was about. The body of a man, dead for 2 years, is found. There is a strong suspicion of murder. Yet we are then treated to a muddled ramble through the life and time of a different man including the break up of his marriage and assorted meetings and interactions with the deceased man. There is no connective tissue between the opening events and the dreary dissertation on a man marooned in New York. In addition the time line jumps from now to then and further back still in a most confusing manner. I cannot say i will be looking for anything else by this author.

Finally whoever puts acknowledgements and facts about where the book was written into the last paragraph of the last chapter.

The whole was an epic fail in my mind
