Favorite Daughter: A Novel by Morgan Dick
2.25
Favorite Daughter finds estranged half-sisters Mickey and Arlo inadvertently meeting for the first time as therapist and patient due to their late father’s decision to revise his will and their inheritances.
This was advertised as “darkly funny”, and I was intrigued by the premise, but it just didn’t work well for me. I will admit, it was entertaining enough to read in one sitting, and I thought it was paced well. But I found the plot to be a bit unbelievable, with just one too many convenient plot points that strained credulity. There were multiple characters that, had they been actual people and not just there to move the plot along, I think would have behaved in very different ways at several points. I will also note that most of the characters were pretty unlikeable, which I actually don’t mind, but I know many people do.
Overall, although it was a quick read, it just missed the mark for me.
