19 books and still going strong. The books in The Kurtherian Gambit series manages to stay reasonable true to their core story, more of the same if you want, and yet continue to be enjoyable reading (as in not getting boring) even after 19 books.

As the book blurb states Bethany continues to take care of the Kurtherian problem one ass-kicking at the time. This time it is the Leath that finds themselves being the target of Bethany’s tender care.

As I wrote in a previous review I was a bit doubtful when this Baba Yaga was introduced, and I still find the name a bit silly, but it really was such a great idea. In a lot of books the hero or heroine evolves getting more and more promotions and responsibility which, often, makes the character less and less interesting since he is further and further removed from the actual action. With Baba Yaga Bethany can both have the cake and eat it.

That doesn’t mean that she does everything of course and both our lovable ranger Tabitha as well as her bitches get their share of the ass-kicking. I really like all the characters in these books. Their bantering, the action and their way of making the bad guys realize just how much they fucked up. The latter is usually the last insight the bad guys ever have though.

The end of the book is … interesting. With that kind of ending the next book could take us in just about any direction. Looking forward to more ass-kicking and creative cussing in the Kurtherian universe.
