The Lord of the Rings
by J.R.R. Tolkien
I had a great time reading this book. It's a classic hero's journey set in an expansive setting with a memorable cast of characters that live and breathe through the pages and writing that reads like an old fairytale. Every chapter could be a short story and continuously builds up the world. As someone who has seen the films, I initially felt that it was a little slow, a considerable amount of time is spent introducing Middle Earth and the characters. But by the end, this only made the journey more rewarding and the conclusion more satisfying.
