I Funny by Chris Grabenstein, James Patterson
2.0
in the hunt for literally Laugh Out Loud books, I thought this looked promising. ENHNHH! things i liked: main character is in a wheelchair and wants to be a comedian and cracks jokes (some original, some from famous comedians, all credited) throughout the book.
sadly, this book is NOT funny. okay, a few of the jokes got groans or chuckles, but this kid has a really sad story about why he's in the wheelchair, he's living with an adoptive family who are unpleasant and treat him poorly (well, at least one of them does). blergh. why couldn't he have just been a kid in a wheelchair with a good sense of humor and drop all the other baggage? no amount of one-liners can overcome that amount of baggage and make this book (which has fun-promising cover) actually fun to read.
