Remedy is a cold and closed off CEO, trapped in her own life by her memories and bruised heart. Not even her closest friends know the extent to which she's been beaten down and hurt. The only person she hasn't been able to run off with her attitude and mean mask is Lathan, the bodyguard who was forced on her by Verse. Lathan is a man freed from prison, trying to make things right his teenage daughter, amend his mistakes and figure out the enigma that is the woman he's paid to protect.
Lathan and Remedy gave me heart palpitations in the best way. Remedy had me frowning in the beginning but the author showed her doing the work to heal and I LOVED that so much. Her trusting Lathan inch by inch, keeping her strength, but knowing she needed to open herself up to have a life was written so well and it made me emotional. The way she grabbed ahold of the future, let in the ones she loved, and fought for her own sanity was inspiring and wonderful. She was fully rounded character and she took a journey. Lathan as a single dad, protector, artist, and lover was a man on a mission to be a soft place to land and he was definitely that. The way he took charge wasn't overbearing or abrasive. It was firm, but still very gentle. Lathan knew when to push forward and when to wait. His support when Remedy fully confronted her past, and his strength in using his voice to tell Verse the truth about the walls she put up around her was swoonworthy. I enjoyed them so much. I loved this.
