Saying this book is slow paced doesn't suffice, it is glacially slow. I have never been bored bu this author before and it's surprising given the subject mattet. It might be more engaging to someone more interested  in Shakespeare. It's an interesting immersion in Elizabethan England small town life but it contains one of my least favourite tropes - when the female main character in a historical novel (and it's always a female character) has unaccountably modern attitudes, morals and beliefs.
