This was such a cute graphic novel! The illustrations were absolutely beautiful, I loved the combination of a more cartoon style with watercolors. The color palettes for each chapter were also stunning. I loved how this book centered on the friendship of four Black women who support one another through their joys and celebrations,  challenges and struggles. I liked seeing the different personalities of each character and how they interacted with one another. It was genuinely funny and it felt like I was there with them while they caught up and talked.

It was really interesting to me how the focal point of the story was hair and the importance of caring for it and for yourself. I thought all the drawings of their different hairstyles and the processes for washing and styling it were so gorgeous. I also appreciated how the friendship and sisterhood between the women in the book was so connected to their wash days, something about sharing that experience with others is so intimate and personable.

While there are discussions of heavier subjects, it’s a very light read and I definitely recommend.
