Prophet Song by Paul Lynch: 4/5

not surprised that this won this year’s Booker prize as it’s scarily relevant. the lack of quotation marks in the writing adds intensity to the already tense situation, but I did find it slowed down the pacing. it’s immersive, and set in a dystopian-esque Dublin as the state moves towards an authoritarian civil war type situation. it doesn’t describe or explain how it occurs (does it even need to?) but focuses more on the internal, disastrous consequences it has on the people.
