Another beautiful book by Khalid Hosseini. As others have said, I preferred the kite runner and a thousand splendid suns, but this was also a really beautiful story and a lot more hopeful and somewhat ‘happier’ than the previous two. I would have loved to spend more time with each of the characters, as some felt a bit too brief, particularly Abdullah. It felt like there was a chunk missing from his story especially when we got so much detail about characters such as Markos. I would have also loved to learn more about Roshi’s life.
Having said that, loved the interconnectedness of the characters and slowly unraveling who was who at the beginning of the chapters. The symmetry between the story at the very beginning, (the div showing mercy by giving the father the memory loss potion) and theheartbreaking conclusion to Abdullah’s story is so profound and really highlights the way cruelty and benevolence are so closely linked.
Very much looking forward to picking up Hosseini‘s latest book.
