With the Soul Stealer weakened but still at large, and with new allows alongside him, Yelena finds herself once again struggling to keep herself and her friends alive. Held in suspicion by those she though she could trust, Yelena goes on the run with a small group of loyal followers in the hope they can stop this evil before it returns.

With twists and turns during every chapter, Maria Snyder once again has written a great story.

Firstly, I absolutely love the recaps she weaves into the story. If you end up reading a series with time between each book, it's so useful to have little recap sections. Snyder manages to provide these without taking anything away from the current story which is amazing!

I also loved the evolution of the characters and their relationships, particularly that of Yelena and Leif. I enjoyed seeing how their relationship finally becomes that of a proper brother and sister.

Snyder explores morality a bit more in this book. Yelena is forced to choose between saving the many or saving the few and its really interesting to see that thread through the story.

I know this series continues, although I am going to stop here for the time being and read a few others on my TBR list. I'm hoping in the later books that Yelena and Valeks relationship is explored a bit more.
