This is probably the absolute high point of the series at this point. It's hilarious and dark in equal measures, although some of the formula of the later volumes is starting to creep through here. The minor scene near the end at the impromptu Star Trek gathering foreshadows some of the highjinks that turn up in future books. No matter, because this story ramps up the tension between Stephanie and Ranger, without sidelining Morelli at all. Plus, it introduces Bob, probably one of my top five dogs in all of literature.
