The Shadowhunter's Codex by Joshua Lewis, Cassandra Clare
4.0
As some may find the idea of a codex tedious and unstimulating, i was personally enthralled in digging deeper into the lives and beings of the Nephilim, the Downworlders, and mundanes. and let's not forget demons, and of course, the angels.
The Shadowhunter's Codex did not disappoint. It gives you everything you need to know about the Shadowhunter worldnot really everything though considering the Codex is meant to be old and the characters of the TMI series have made some history themselves. Having read the first 5 books of The Mortal Instruments series, i have gained much information in this single book. It gives clarification about the things and concepts that make up the world of the Nephilim, the Downworlders, the different demons (and demon realms), etc. More so, the Codex did not fail to entertain. Throughout the book, there were comments written in the handwritings of Jace, Clary, and Simon. I have literally laughed out loud a couple of times while reading it. You have to, however, read the first books of the Mortal Instruments Series to understand most of them.
The Codex is also pretty with its lovely cover and all its illustrations(sketches).
The reason I gave it a 4/5 is that there were still parts of the book that were dragging (it is more informative, and not a novel), and mostly the thing that kept me going is that i was anticipating comments from Jace, Clary, and Simon.
But if you are a huge TMI and/or The Infernal Devices trilogy fan, this book is a must read.
The Shadowhunter's Codex is also mentioned in the series & the trilogy so you would want to read it yourself.
