I have been asked numerous times why I love and re-read SJM's books, and I found a great Tumbler post regarding Sarah J. Maas. It helps explain some of why I love her intriguing stories, worlds, and characters in all her series.

• Strong female characters who literally don’t need men to save them.

• REALISTIC ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION!

• A MALE character who has been sexually abused and assaulted and suffers repercussions from it.

• The first guy a girl meets is not her soulmate (i.e., realistic relationships).

• Depictions of both male and female abusers/abusive relationships.

• FEMALE CHARACTERS ACTUALLY LOOKING OUT FOR OTHER FEMALE CHARACTERS!

• Did I already mention badass women who could kick a man’s butt if she needed to?

*Female characters that can be both badass and feminine.

*Male characters that aren’t warriors and don’t feel ashamed for it.

*Male characters that like the idea of being in love and/or dream of having a family.

*Female characters that have sexual active lives and are not shamed for it.

*Female characters save male character’s lives without the male feeling less manly for it.

*Males and females being friends, without romantic or sexual attraction for each other.
