Crowner's Crusade by Bernard Knight

4.0

A fascinating glimpse into a possible journey of a knight with King Richard from the crusades, trying to return to Normandy, in spite of the opposition of other European leaders. After the king’s capture, the knight, John de Wolfe makes his way back to Devon, and illustrates the life of a knight with merchant connections in that time. It also presents a state of lawlessness present without an appointed sheriff, and is a novel-length prequel to the Crowner John series.

Thoroughly enjoyable, and fascinating to get impressions of life in the late 12th century Exeter.
