i love crazy women!!!!!!!!!! whoohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!
this whole book was wild. irina easily makes this a banger because she’s funny as hell. comedic comedy on point, absolute nonchalance regarding the most Insane Shit, and not giving a fuck at any time ever. iconic. i lived. so many funny quotes and she seriously made this a fun time.
i know this is litfic and the genre lives and dies by having no resolutions at the end of the book but i can’t still say im not annoyed. after all that you’re just going to leave me on a cliffhanger like you straight up just submitted the book in the middle of a paragraph? rude! ambiguous endings are fine omg but give me SOMETHING to work with. nothing is concluded, nothing is wrapped up, and the element of the reader question irina’s sanity is brought up with like 5% of the book left and then bam it ends. like what was the point of that.
the horror…. this was not horror. ok i mean objectively there were horror elements but…. idk the reputation of this book told me something different. i was expecting horror coming out the wazoo but really i got like two scenes of mild horror. oh wow there’s glass in someones eye…. and you sodomize someone….. wow….. like i wouldn’t even say this isn’t horror?? but it’s such light horror. i feel like this is something you’d rec to someone looking to dip their toes into horror because yeah it has horrifying scenes but it’s not overwhelmingly despicable like some other horror novels. but idk i was disappointed because i expected something like stephen king levels of fucked.
there were a lot of elements in this book too that were just randomly abandoned at a moments notice. it didn’t piss me off too much considering this just followed a random point in irina’s life but still, idk many elements were introduced and then never touched on again. a lot of subplots as well felt like they had no resolution, and god knows i hate media with shitty resolutions! i’m not too mad about it tho because like i said god irina is so funny. seriously she didn’t fail to make me laugh. but the writing alongside from her personality was……. not spectacular imo.
