Successor's Promise by Trudi Canavan

3.0

Undoubtedly an improvement over the first two in the series, this book is still ultimately a guilty pleasure read. It's got a whole bunch of fantasy tropes smashed together, and not really a whole lot new to say, but it is overall just a bit of fun. Despite the lack of character definition and the weird stumbling writing that continues to repeat itself (not as egregious as previous novels again, but still there).
It does have a few small comments about the dangers of industrialisation, and about being in control of your own life and actions, but the messages are heavy-handed and mostly uninspiring.
Read if you just want a bit of good old-fashioned fantasy fun.
