Our Violent Ends by Chloe Gong

4.0

definitely an upgrade from the flow in TVD. the references to the original play were much more in this book, which is why it was easier to immerse in the 'retelling' aspect of the book.

I thought I'd be tired of the repetitive enemies of lovers arc for the second time around, bit I was surprised to find myself actually liking it a lot more this time. there's much more angst packed into this book, and the action/drama scenes actually worked well with the overall intention of the book in some way? it's probably also because the focus of his book was on politics than monsters, which is why it was considerably more realistic.

this might be a spoiler, so beware!!!!!

I kinda wanted the book to end as a tragedy. I know that would-be destroyed the fans, but it would've added such a perfect killing blow to the plot. either way, I really enjoyed it.

these violent delights really do have violent ends. and we have always known that.
