The Hunting Wives by May Cobb

5.0

This book was extremely captivating.

The story follows life in a small town in East Texas where the main character, Sophie, returns to after moving away in high school. Now married to her husband, Graham, and having a 3 year old son, Jack, Sophie was looking for relaxed small-town life to raise her family. She quickly discovered that the small-town life she thought she wanted was boring and felt trapped.

Along comes Margot Banks, one of the richest moms in town, and her group of friends: Tina, Callie, and Jill. Together these 4 moms form “The Hunting Wives”, which is what they call themselves because of their Friday night tendencies to go to Margot’s lake house, drinking and skeet shooting. Sophie is invited into the group and becomes quickly infatuated with Margot.

Soon after Sophie joins The Hunting Wives, people connected to the group turn up dead, and many suspect her involvement. Their suspicions are confirmed when her prints are found on the murder weapon, but Sophie is innocent.

The book leads up to the unexpected answer to the big question: Who is responsible?

The characters in this story are all flawed, and the MC makes so many dumb decisions but overall it was still very enjoyable.

I read this book entirely in one day. It’s an extremely character driven story, and I found Margot to be captivating and could not stop reading about the crazy nights The Hunting Wives would have each weekend. I 100% recommend this book. It was both entertaining and thrilling to wonder who was responsible for the murders!
