Italian Shoes by Henning Mankell
4.0
I ended up liking this book better than I thought I would. I really considered dropping it after the first 100 pages or so. Very bleak, these Swedish guys, very bleak.
But in the end, it really did turn out to be a study of redemption, and a tale that says that we are never too old to say we're sorry and work at reclaiming the life we have left.
I was put off by things that I thought were unnecessary to the story--the ever-growing anthill in the bedroom for one--but if you just let your mind float a little, it all makes more sense.
I don't know if this is a book I would recommend to everyone asking for "something good to read." Too quirky for that.
