A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man / Dubliners by James Joyce

3.0

I'm very glad that I can finally add James Joyce to my reading experience. I appreciate his skill with creating a wide cast of characters and with helping the reader to step into turn-of-the-century Dublin. Joyce is clearly a master at painting characters with a few strokes that allow us to see their hopes, their fears, and their disappointments with life. That being said, neither of these stories really resonated with me. I enjoyed [b:Dubliners|11012|Dubliners|James Joyce|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1334138184s/11012.jpg|260248] more than [b:A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man|7588|A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man|James Joyce|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388201200s/7588.jpg|3298883], simply because the free-association type of writing in Portrait was harder for me to follow.
