Ever the Brave by Erin Summerill

I really, really dislike it when authors narrate Book 1 exclusively from a certain character's perspective, and then move into multiple viewpoints for Book 2. RAGE. I dislike the inconsistency, and it feels lazy.

That said...this isn't a bad book at all. I was pleased that while Channeler magic was still an important aspect of the story, Britta's lack of a teacher meant that she was mostly free to revert back to being the bad-ass hunter that she started out as in Book 1. I also enjoyed watching Britta grow. Her circumstances in this book are wildly different from what they were in Book 1, and not in a way that is comfortable for her. Watcher her deal with that was really fun.

As with Book 1, the romance is strong in this one. I should have expected it, but the love triangle was a bit more central to the story than I would have preferred. That said, while I really dislike plots that rely on characters failing to communicate, this version of it made sense because she explored WHY certain characters chose to keep certain secrets, even if it wasn't objectively a great choice. Still, the ending felt a tad too easy after all of that maddening buildup.

Listened to this on audio. I was so impressed with how the narrator handled all three viewpoints. I could always tell who was narrating based on little shifts in her voice.
