And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

5.0

agatha christies writing style is very easy to read and yet the story is still complex and the characters are still interesting and slowly being developed in a natural way without rushing into their backstories immediately.
she does a fantastic job of incorporating the elements of the nursery rhyme and it was really fun for me to try figuring out how, when, or who will die next based off of each verse.
a group of ten people are invited to a mansion on an island by a mysterious "U.N. Owen" after being tricked by their guise as someone each guest used to know. they are stranded there with no way to call for help, as the boat that took them has stopped coming to the island and there is a nasty storm. one by one, each person begins to die according to each verse of a certain nursery rhyme placed on each persons fireplace mantel. they soon find out that there is no one else on the island but the eight of them and the two servants, who are also part of the group of people tricked into coming there. as each person begins to die in a way eerily similar to the nursery rhyme, the cast slowly descents into madness as they feverishly try to find the culprit among them.
this book was pulled me in from the first few pages, i think the premise and the plot was very interesting and the culprit is not easily found out. agatha does a great work of writing the ten characters and describing each murder without giving away the killer. i loved how there wasnt anyone who was an actual, active detective and so this group of entirely average people have to solve murders with their own lives on the line while simultaneously watching out for the killer pretending to be one of their allies.
the ending was baffling and i had absolutely no idea who the actual killer was; agatha christie pulled it off exceptionally well and i really enjoyed reading this mystery; i dont believe that there was a single aspect that i disliked. looking forward to reading more books written by her.
