The Monster by L.J. Shen
5.0

LJ's books are one of the first romance books I read. As I got more into my reading journey, I did stay loyal but felt like I was outgrowing her books and writing style.

The Monster brought me right back to enjoying her. I personally feel like she has a talent for writing more gritty, morally challenged characters compared to other types. Sam Brennan did not disappoint.
He was everything a morally gray character should be.

I read several reviews stating that Aisling was a doormat, and I never once got that vibe. I read a girl who was obsessed with a man since she was 17 years old and that obsession never left. When the book jumps to the present time, she is 27 years old. A grown woman. She was never once a doormat for Sam, and really had no issues putting him in his place. Both her and Sam were relatively complex.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I hope that LJ continues to write books more like this than her normal "billionaire in a suit who is just a jerk for 2.5" story.
