maybe closer to a 3.5? one of my least favorite by chuck palahniuk, for sure. there's an interesting idea here but there's too much happening for it to get fully explored, too many characters spread over too much time, not near enough development of any of them. still readable--his prose is always great for me--but definitely nowhere close to his best.

if you're considering picking this up, just read fight club instead. similar commentary, significantly better experience.
